Instead of coil springs, other spring solutions may become necessary in industrial valves to guarantee the secure function and actuation of the valve. In pressure-relief valves, the spring normally holds the valve closed, but allows excess pressure to open the valve against the spring tension. SPRING-OPERATED BRAKES – E.G. IN PASSENGER ELEVATORS AND INDUSTRIAL ELEVATORS
As a fail-safe braking mechanism, e.g. in passenger and industrial elevators, the springs operate in the event of a power failure in the system. During normal operation of the system, the springs are compressed so that the brake remains open. In the event of a power failure, the spring stack is released and the brake is activated. The highest quality standards ensure safety.

ELECTRIC MELTING FURNACES
The electrode is held by a spring assembly. When the electrode is activated, the spring stack is hydraulically loaded and the electrodes are moved. For shutdown, the hydraulic pressure is reduced and the spring stack relieved, closing the electrode.
COMPENSATING FOR THERMAL EXPANSION IN PIPELINES
Thermal expansion often occurs in a vertical and horizontal direction in pipelines. Disc springs can compensate for the expansion and reduce the tension in the pipeline. HÄUSSERMANN springs can be exactly matched.
Disc springs help dampen the foundations of buildings, masts, industrial plants etc. They provide basic safety especially in regions at risk of earthquakes.
In sprinkler heads, the disc spring closes the valve for the water outlet. At the same time, it exerts a constant pressure on a glass ampoule where there is a liquid. The expansion of this liquid in the case of fire or heating causes the ampoule to burst. The disc spring releases the valve, the sprinkler opens and the extinguishing water comes out.
SUPPORT OF SHIP DECKS
Disc springs compensate for the deflection and warpage of ship decks so that the forces are distributed evenly over the plain bearing.
Disc springs are used in printing presses for the spring-loaded suspension of the printing rollers in order to achieve uniform printing results when using paper with different weights. In rolling machines and mills, disc springs ensure uniform suspension and the optimum pressure for varying material thicknesses.
